The Sun Don’t Shine Without You at Villa Paissa d’en Bernat, Ibiza

Our last event of the incredible 2019 season was one I’d been looking forward to ever since I first met Chloe & Rob, 6 months before at their chosen wedding venue, the stunning Villa Paissa D’en Bernat in Sant Josep, Ibiza.

The Date : October 19th 2019

The Couple : Chloe & Rob

The Venue : Villa Paissa d’En Bernat, Ibiza

Connecting whilst the sun set, they described their favourite songs and the kind of atmosphere they were wanting to create for their wedding. It was clear music was something close to their heart, as is the case for most couples who choose to tie the knot in Ibiza.

From Buena Vista Social Club to Jefferson Starship, Klangkarussell to Sister Sledge, they had specific requests from across the musical spectrum and I was really excited to bring them together for such a treasured occasion.

The sun really sparkled that day in October, just like the eyes and smiles on the faces of all their loved ones. 80 guests had travelled to be there with them and love was in the air.

We began the day’s soundtrack with a specially curated playlist designed for the guests entry. Sunshine soul classics alongside tropical house set the mood perfectly as the first glasses of cava sangria were enjoyed.

The ceremony was led by Danielle, founder of Your Day Ibiza, and included some great personal touches that even my vast wedding experience had never seen – pinky promises!

Whilst signing their names, I began my acoustic rendition of “Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine)” by Klangkarussell. With the lyrics stirring up images of walks through wilderness, dancing in the sun and worries melting away with a smile, it was absolutely the ideal song for this pair.

Over canapés & cocktails, The Ibiza Feeling got to warming up the party with our inspired acoustic cover versions of some house & disco favourites, as requested. With myself on guitar and vocals, Rocky on cajon, bongos & shakers and Dominique with some soulful sax, it was a perfect live soundtrack for that moment.

In South Africa, there is a wedding tradition that was completely new to me, until Chloe’s mother got in touch and explained it all. With the song “Wedding Day” by Brenda Fassie cued, our couple were surprised by a generous showering of dollars as a wedding favour. It was great to watch, made for a unique photo opportunity and the song is so very joyous and fitting that I’d recommend it to any mother with a penchant to delight!

As day fell into night, everyone took their seats for dinner and I was pretty excited to start up the playlist I’d made for them. They wanted latin flavours, with shades of flamenco and bursts of nu-jazz and chill-out; a set of songs to make a Summer last forever, including “Flores of Libertad” by Ibiza’s very own Paco Fernandez

A few days ago, I actually put the playlist for this into a DJ mix so they and all their guests could be transported to this incredible moment anytime they wish.

The speeches included an unforgettable tribute from Chloe’s brother; a song all about the loved-up couple which had every single person (including us!) singing along. It was the perfect way to bridge the dinner to the party!

Sequins and sparkles were donned and The Ibiza Feeling were joined by one of our trusted vocalists, Roberto Campoli, to prepare for the all-important first dance.

Being an unashamed fan of cheesy 80’s power ballads, I was thrilled when I heard they wanted “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”. I jumped at the chance to sing it live as a duet with Roberto, and along with the obligatory sax solo, the party was started!

Since we’d been at the venue throughout the day, we were familiar enough with the guests and it wasn’t long at all until they were joining on the mic for “We Are Family” and even doing the famous “lift” during “Time Of My Life”… what a great bunch!

We moved into house music and Dom performed an incredible solo over Laurent Garnier’s “The Man With The Red Face”, surrounded by stunned on-lookers.

At midnight, we finished up with some of their all-time favourite floor-fillers, “I Follow Rivers” & “Show Me Love”, and with me having truly exhausted myself stomping and belting it out with all my might, Ian kept on to DJ until the end.

The likes of Bakermat, Camelphat, Todd Terry, A.T.F.C, Jon Cutler & Inner City brought the evening to a euphoric end at the venue before the newly-weds led their group onto Pikes for even more.

It was truly a privilege to programme and perform for Chloe & Rob on such a happy occasion. We delivered what they were looking for and I’m so glad they were recommended to book us. It’s clear to see how much they appreciated our hard work from the glowing testimonial below.

“The Ibiza Feeling, made up of Nell Shakespeare, DJ Ian Kennedy, Dom de Larrard and Rocky on Percussion are the most incredible group of entertainers you will find on the island of Ibiza!

We were incredibly lucky to have been recommended to contact Nell and to have had them play at our wedding from ceremony to party time!

As our first dance song was a duet (Starship’s Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now), Nell sourced a male vocalist to perform with her (and for the rest of the evening) and we were blessed to have Pikes very own crazy Piano man, Roberto Campoli join us! Wow, what a first dance song! What a team!

From first meeting Nell in April (6 months lead time) we just clicked, she absolutely understood exactly what we wanted and added so much more! We didn’t even think about having the first dance live until Nell burst into song at that very first meeting, it was just bliss! Liaising with Nell in the lead up to the wedding and sharing our ideas was incredibly easy and super creative!

It had been a wish to have Sonnentanz’s “The Sun Don’t Shine” performed acoustically as my husband and I walked back down the aisle; I was so nervous as to how this would work out, especially with female vocals; Nell NAILED IT! I had goosebumps as I walked down the aisle with my husband holding my hand, the best feeling in the world with the most amazing soundtrack!

Our guests were wowed with the Buena Vista Social vibes during canapes and cocktails and went crazy when The Ibiza Feeling turned up the heat after dinner for full on live party vibes with incredible vocals, uplifting sax, percussion beats and DJ mixing of party classics and tunes into the morning! The comments we have had from our guests have been exemplary! You left every single one of us beaming. THANK YOU so very much!

Not only were we incredibly blessed to have you make the music to our special day, but we are truly privileged to have found new friends! We will cherish the memories and giggles! Thank you so much, we love you guys!
