The sweetest feeling – Agroturismo Can Gall, Ibiza

Let’s go back to May 11th 2019 and remember the super beautiful but also really great fun wedding of Sophie and Iain at Agroturismo Can Gall.

Agroturismo Can Gall

We’d had a lot of communication in the run up to their big day via email as well as a really lovely meeting in person with her Iain and my Ian respectfully, at the picturesque Golden Buddha in San Antonio. We got on instantly and they’re a great example of the kind of clients that we love to work with, ie: music lovers.

They wanted funk, soul, motown, house, disco and a bit of pop and although there were some changes to the plan over the course of the run up, we definitely got there in the end! Choosing music for your wedding day, as a music lover especially, can feel like so many important decisions. It can feel overwhelming. This is your chance to invite your family and friends to basically your shared perfect day of love, so the music needs to hit all the right notes and say what you want it to say. Helping couples reach this peak is what I really love to do. Once the decisions are made, the musicians are booked, the timings are agreed, the special songs are chosen… then actually doing it, performing on the day, that’s just an amazing feeling. Admiring the bride and meeting the family…. ahh you can tell I miss it, right?

Ceremony – Nell Shakespeare Acoustic

Reception – Nell and Tash Acoustic Duo

Party – The Ibiza Feeling 4 piece followed by DJ Ian Kennedy

The guests were to arrive at 3pm so we made our way to gorgeous Can Gall around midday to set up and soundcheck. The first sound-system was at the entrance, for the guests to take in the beauty of their surroundings and quench their thirst, whilst listening to some soft yet tropical sounds which I’d arranged on a playlist.

After this, of course, it would be time for the ceremony. We’d thought about using a saxophonist with me for the ceremony but in the end, kept it simple with just myself and my guitar playing first “Sweetest Feeling” by Jackie Wilson as the bridal party walked down the aisle…

When you turn on your smile
I feel my heart go wild
I’m like a child with a brand new toy
And I get the sweetest feeling
Sophie then made her way across the lush green grass to probably one of the greatest love songs, “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”, first released by Elvis Presley way back in 1961, a whopping 60 years ago! Some songs are just as timeless as love itself.
After a touching ceremony, we agreed on “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” for their exit song, by one of my personal favourite artists, Stevie Wonder. For obvious reasons, this is just a perfect choice for getting the party started after exchanging vows and rings. There had been other ideas for ceremony songs and it’s not uncommon for couples to make changes but these kind of classic songs will always serve as flawless choices in my humble opinion.

Cue this lovely lady standing next to me, this is Tasha Pyne. As a duo, we had a beautiful time harmonising while the canapés and cocktails were enjoyed. I consider myself so lucky as this island has such a great wealth of musicians to form unique partnerships with, and Tash is no exception. I first met her when she regularly attended my group singing classes in the Winter of 2017, which grew into The Ibiza Choir. Of course, I noticed her voice immediately and I was eager to hear what we sounded like as a duo.

Here’s a minute of us performing Andy Grammer’s “Fresh Eyes”, taken in the Can Gall gardens (so so lush!) but not from Sophie and Iain’s wedding I’m afraid, as we simply didn’t record it at the time!

So after a gorgeous serenading in the garden, their 105 guests were seated for dinner at 7pm. This is our opportunity to dissemble the sound systems from the ceremony and reception area, take a little time to relax and refresh and think about all the ways that we’re going to get the party going!

It was time for an outfit change!

Cue the headdress…

When a couple chooses to get married in Ibiza, they probably enjoy a party.

If they enjoy a party, then I always recommend booking The Ibiza Feeling.

Serving up the 4 corners of what gives you THAT IBIZA FEELING on the dancefloor.

  1. A slick, knowing and confident DJ – Ian Kennedy
  2. Tribal percussion and rhythms – Rocky
  3. Big soulful classic female vocals – Nell Shakespeare
  4. Of course, Sax and lots of it! – Dominique de Larrard

We know that at weddings, there’s lots of different music tastes in the same room; different generations, different ideas of what is a party tune. So we do them all, and we’re not shy about it! We actually send out a questionnaire to our clients a few months before the big day and ask them to rate how much they’d like to hear classic house, for example, or RnB, or Pop etc etc. We also if they have a styling preference and Sophie and Iain went for our tribal look.

Performance is sensory so with every styling choice we make, it can impact the performance. I believe the tribal look helps people lose their inhibitions more. Many couples enjoy us looking glamorous and glittered and some request us to be a vision of pure white island chic. What look would you go for? It’s your moment, so create it!

We kicked off proceedings with their first dance, “Ain’t Nobody” by the incredible Chaka Khan. Once again they chose one of those utterly perfect songs that nobody can argue against.

You may be wondering where any evidence of Dominique’s involvement in this day… I cannot find a single photo or video that places him at the scene but I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT HE WAS SENSATIONAL! (I know that because he quite literally always is) – here’s a photo of him anyway because I can’t just leave him out! Read about the wedding this absolute gem was taken here.

I found a few videos of that night and it’s great to be taken back to such an amazing party, celebrating the love these two share. And…. dancing at weddings is the best, right?

We kept on for until 11:30pm and then Ian took over on the decks playing nothing but belters like this bit of Teddy Pendergrass, with Rocky providing the extra vibes.

I would recommend Can Gall to any couple looking for a private paradise in which to hold the whole wedding celebration at. With beautiful rooms to stay in, amazingly well-kept grounds and perfect different areas to hold each part of the day at, but still put your stamp on things… I just don’t have anything bad to say about it. It’s run by one of Ibiza’s wedding heroes Santi, who is simply a pleasure to work alongside and is just fantastic at his job and spreading the love. It’s one of the wedding venues I’ve performed most often in and it’s always been a brilliant party!

Sophie and Iain will be celebrating their 2nd anniversary this May and the whole team at Fonoteca wishes them all the luck and love in the world in their life together and thanks them for choosing to give us the privilege to soundtrack their wedding day.

Here’s what they had to say:

After initially starting off with some slightly off-piste ideas for the ceremony (which in hindsight probably would have been an epic fail) we settled for simplicity on the day and had Nell and her guitar serenade the bridal party down the aisle. This complemented the mood at that point in the day perfectly and when I watched our ceremony footage back for the first time and saw what I had missed whilst getting ready, I was really pleased that we had Nell there to set the tone whilst the guests were seated and waiting for the ceremony to start.
We upped the tempo slightly for the drinks and canapes reception but still wanted an acoustic ambience – Nell had Nastasha join her and together they performed some amazing harmonies. That was one of our favourite parts of the day, the sun was beaming, the drinks were flowing and the venue provided what felt like an intimate private garden backdrop – it was everything we had envisioned and made even more perfect by the song list that Nell had worked on with us.
Finally, after the food was devoured and the speeches came to a close, we moved from the garden to the pagoda for the first dance. Sung by Nell herself – we had a beautiful rendition of Ain’t Nobody – which allowed us to have the first 5 minutes to ourselves before getting everyone to join us on the dancefloor for the chorus. We wanted something fun as a first dance song but with a fitting sentiment so this was the perfect choice for us – it went down very well and got everyone fully into the party spirit! Nell continued to play into the night with her band The Ibiza Feeling, complete with bongos and sax in true Ibizan style – they were absolutely fantastic and had everyone on the dance floor with their renditions of all the cool classics as well as some more modern belters! As if that wasn’t all enough, Ian closed the day with a DJ set to keep everyone going into the early hours…
